Clinical Pilates

Moving with strength and confidence

As Joseph Pilates said; ” True flexibility can be achieved only when all muscles are uniformly developed.” So, here at PhysioMotus, we advocate correct movement as a means for you to move at a level beyond your imagined potential.

We aim to do more than simply to just treat our patients’ pain.

For long-term benefits, many of our patients need to re-learn how to move better. They need to increase their self-awareness of their body movements. When they have the knowledge and guided practice to improve in these areas, they increase their capacity and ability to maintain and improve their physical health and fitness. It also helps tremendously in healing and preventing future injuries.

In the initial and remodeling phase, Pilates can be mechanical. “Place your feet here, place your hand there, move this way, move that way.” Safety is paramount, and in this regard, we call this phase Clinical Pilates as sessions are supervised under the watchful eye of a physiotherapist.

Subsequently, we change the way we communicate and teach Pilates exercises to develop the power within you for mind over body. You are thinking a lot more to connect mind and body. “Powerhouse, think reach, think stretch, strength and control, squeeze every atom of the impure air out from your lungs, wring every drop of water from a wet cloth, reach the tip of your ears away, imagine your spine like a spring, create space, lift and scoop…”

That is when you experience our beliefs - which is to teach Pilates to honour the original work of Joseph Pilates while applying modern knowledge of biomechanics. We do that through the philosophy of Contrology and teach the original repertoire. Our goal is to have you perform the 34 Mat exercises and use the apparatus to help you get there.

“Contrology is not a system of haphazard exercises designed to produce only bulging muscles… Correctly executed and mastered to the point of subconscious reaction, these exercise will reflect grace and balance in your routine activities.” Joseph Pilates

You will experience the the original work because we avoid teaching fancy stuff. We believe that Joseph’s work is enough and good. We will try our very best to use science to explain his work and intent in each exercise.
